Porcelain Crowns

In cases of badly damaged teeth where a filling, bonding, veneer or onlays are insufficient forms of restoration, crowns are recommended. They provide full coverage for a damaged tooth.

Crowns can be made out of porcelain of different kinds, porcelain fused to metal substructure or gold. Porcelain (metal free) crowns are best to maintain a natural look and feel and can be matched to the shade of your other teeth. This will allow the crown to blend in and appear just like one of your own natural teeth.

If you see a tooth that just does not look good when you look in the mirror, please schedule a consult to see how we can help you to bring your smile back to health! Please schedule an appointment now!

Procedure:

The process of getting a crown takes two visits. On the first visit, the tooth will be reshaped so that the crown can be placed over it. You will be given a local anesthetic before this part of the procedure so that you do not experience any discomfort. Once the tooth has been reshaped, a mold will be taken. This mold will be sent to a dental lab where a master ceramist will create a new tooth that fits your smile perfectly. You will never go without a tooth so rest assured you will not have an unsightly gap in between visits. Before leaving we will fit you with a temporary crown until your permanent crown is ready.

The crown takes about 1-2 weeks create. At the second appointment, we will place and fit the permanent crown. Crowns are durable and will usually last about 10-15 years with proper care. You should care for it as you would any of your other teeth with regular brushing and flossing.
